Schauman & Nordgren Architects attends the 30th MIPIM real estate conference in Cannes, France this week.

SNA exhibits at the Nordic Urban Spaces exhibition in Berlin 5.7.-28.9.2018

Schauman & Nordgren Architects exhibits at the ‘Nordic Urban Spaces’ exhibition at the Nordic Embassies in Berlin. The exhibition opens on Thursday the 5th of July and runs until the 28th of September 2018.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the Nordic Embassies in Berlin, TU Berlin and the Nordic Council of Ministers. For more info about the exhibition, click here.

About the position
Schauman & Nordgren Architects is opening an office in Helsinki and is now looking for an engaged, ambitious and talented architect to join their team. We offer you the opportunity to be involved in the early stages of a young and ambitious architecture and urban planning studio that works within the Nordic countries. You will have the opportunity to work with projects both in Finland as well as in Denmark and Sweden and we promise you that we will offer you an interesting environment to be part of. We are looking for an architect who can take a leading role of our ambitious urban planning projects in Finland.

SNA wins 3 out of 3 competition in 3 months!

Schauman & Nordgren Architects are excited to announce that they have won 3 out of 3 competitions in the last 3 months. All three projects are urban planning projects in Finland. They vary in scale and function, and have different starting points. In Tampere we are creating a very large scale urban development plan for the city to grow towards.

In Jyväskylä we’re introducing a new urban neighbourhood in a historically import industrial context, while in Pargas we are establishing a qualitative new harbour front for the small city in the Finnish archipelago.Ranging from 1.500.000 m2 to 17.000 m2, we’re very much looking forward to making these visions come true.

About the internship
Schauman & Nordgren Architects is looking for 1-2 talented and ambitious interns within architecture and urban planning to join our team in Copenhagen in spring 2017. The internship starts at the end of January/start of February and has a duration of minimum 4 months. Throughout your internship you will be involved in work ranging from sketching and concept development to presentation and detailing.

Schauman & Nordgren Architects is looking for an engaged and curious architecture student who can take responsibility and has an experience and interest in working with both architecture and urban

Schauman & Nordgren Architects’ proposal for the Alvar Aalto extension

Schauman & Nordgren Architects’ proposal for the extension for the Alvar Aalto museum in Ruusupuisto, Jyväskylä, Finland. We proposed a generous and flexible space that connect the Museum of Central Finland and the Alvar Aalto Museum. A wide ramp along the western facade of the extension connects the two museums seamlessly together.

On the staircase, one can sit and overlook the activity in the shop or gaze at the beautiful landscape through the large glass facade. The tall and slender ‘tree-like’ columns that support the roof aim at introducing a sense of lightness to the space – as if the wild forest in the west continued through the extension to the eastern side and out in the park in front.

A.S. Helsingö handles now in production

Schauman & Nordgren Architects has developed a series of handles called “The Boolean handles” for the design brand A.S.Helsingö. The series is conceived from basic geometries and distinct manipulations. By altering the basic geometries through a few precise operations

the handles perform as tactile and simple in materials such as brass, copper and chrome. The handles have recently been featured in the Finnish liffestyle magazine, Avotakka, in an article about Helsingö. The handles are now for sale in A.S.Helsingö’s online store: www.helsingo.com

SNA designs the new pavilions of Kauppatori market square in Turku

Schauman & Nordgren Architects are proud to announce that they will together with Schauman Arkkitehdit Oy design the new pavilions on the main market square of Turku. Currently, two alternative sketch proposals are on the table and it is yet to be decided wihich one to continue with.

The alternatives were presented for an interested public in Turku last week. The city of Turku published the material on their facebook site, which has generated a lot of discussion about which one would be a better alternative. What is your opinion? Lalax boat house under construction!

The Lalax boathouse is finally under construction and is planned to be ready before the summer arrives in the Finnish archipelago. The projects investigates the traditional archipelago boathouse typology and proposes a contemporary, subtle addition to the summerhouse setting on the island of Högsar, in Nagu. The new boathouse functions both as storage for small dinghies,

tools and gear during the winter as well as a recreational pavilion for social events during the summer. By using traditional building techniques, materials and colour palette, the building bridges the gap between the old and the new, the traditional and the contemporary. SNAs Guggenheim Helsinki proposal featured in various media

Although not being selected as one of the six finalists in the Guggenheim Helsinki competition, Schauman & Nordgren Architects’ proposal, “Landforms and Artforms”, was widely published online in various media around the world. A record number of proposals, 1,715, were handed in for the open comeptition organised by the Guggenheim Foundation and the City of Helsinki.

Before the selection of the six finalists, the proposal was featured in for example Gizmodo as one of the top contenders for making the cut to the final. After the selection of the six finalists, the “Landforms and Artforms” project was featured in blogs such as Archdaily, and in a f a s i a as proposals that should be taken note of.

Schauman & Nordgren Architects is awarded honourable mention in Kouvola City Centre Blocks competition

Schauman & Nordgren Architects received an honourable mention in the “Kouvolan Keskustakorttelit” city centre blocks competition. The aim of the compeititon was to create robust strategies for the development of three urban blocks in the centre of the city of Kouvola in Finland. The challenge in the competition was to integrate the new mixed use development with the existing urban fabric and to establish a clear urban hierarchy that stitches the new and the old seamlessly togheter.

The plans were to include public and commercial functions on the ground floors and housing units on the floors above. A large underground parking facility was also part of the competition task. 70 ambitious teams from various parts of Finland participated in the open competition that was organized by the City of Kouvola and Kiinteistö Oy Torinreuna.
