Schauman & Nordgren Architects received an honourable mention in the “Kouvolan Keskustakorttelit” city centre blocks competition. The aim of the compeititon was to create robust strategies for the development of three urban blocks in the centre of the city of Kouvola in Finland. The challenge in the competition was to integrate the new mixed use development with the existing urban fabric and to establish a clear urban hierarchy that stitches the new and the old seamlessly togheter.
The plans were to include public and commercial functions on the ground floors and housing units on the floors above. A large underground parking facility was also part of the competition task. 70 ambitious teams from various parts of Finland participated in the open competition that was organized by the City of Kouvola and Kiinteistö Oy Torinreuna.
