The aim is to connect Hietalahti Market Square, the end of the Boulevard, and the harbourfront areas as a high-quality and diverse urban environment

A new attractive urban environment at the end of Bulevardi

The plan presents a comprehensive and flexible plan for the development of the Hietalahdenranta area towards an attractive, comfortable, and diverse urban environment.

The aim is to connect Hietalahti Market Square, the end of the Boulevard, and the harbourfront areas as a high-quality and diverse urban environment. This includes tackling transport challenges, improving street and urban facilities and light transport links. At the same time, the whole involves diversifying the region’s activities into an attractive and functional whole.

An area where recreation, business, and housing are seamlessly linked

The vision is to restore Hietalahdenranta to a valuable downtown area at the end of Bulevardi. An area that attracts townspeople to the waterfront. As an area with a diverse and high-quality functional entity. An area where recreation, business, and housing are seamlessly linked. An area that is not based solely on transit traffic

The traffic barrier effect will be reduced by moving Hietalahti traffic away from the intersection at the end of the Boulevard. In this case, the former intersection will develop into an urban space that connects the Boulevard and Hietalahti Square to Hietalahdenranta.

How will the new plan improve the area of Hietalahti?

The urban image of the area will be renewed with diverse street and urban spaces that are seamlessly connected.

Emphasize the historic axis of the Boulevard, continuing towards it to the beach, the endpoint of the Boulevard will move from the road junction to the attractive canal bank. From the endpoint, a new attractive anchor by the water develops.

A new Kanavaranta will be formed in Hietalahdenranta, surrounded by high-quality urban and street facilities. The canal area will become the new center of the south part of Helsinki – a meeting place that is active all year round.
