Itäinen rantakatu is today characterized by heavy traffic and noise. Could it be something different?

Turku Culture Promenade

Turku’s key cultural buildings are located next to each other along the river, presenting a unique opportunity to develop Itäinen Rantakatu into an attractive urban space surrounded by culture, right by the water. Currently, the section of Itäinen Rantakatu between Auransilta and Myllysilta is characterized by heavy traffic and noise. The city’s traffic network allows for this change, making it possible to close Itäinen Rantakatu from Auransilta to the Music Hall. This would enable the creation of a high-quality walking and leisure environment.

Turning the riverfront into a diverse series of urban spaces with a unique identity

The area’s cultural activities could be seamlessly integrated with the surrounding environment, turning the waterfront into a diverse series of urban spaces with a unique identity. The culture promenade could evolve into a versatile waterfront promenade that offers joy to everyone. High culture and everyday life would merge seamlessly into a unified whole, with indoor and outdoor activities blending smoothly to provide diverse experiences year-round and around the clock.
